Student advisory to submit recommendations May 2025 as district builds 'Navarro Prepared' resources

Students on the Superintendent's Student Advisory presented to the board that they will meet monthly with Superintendent Mandy Epley and Clay Scarborough to discuss issues such as security gates, tardy consequences, dual-credit scheduling, life-skills/homemaking classes, college success preparation, endorsements, AP/dual-credit introductions, GPA and weighted classes, and master schedule concerns. The advisory group is scheduled to deliver final recommendations at the May 19, 2025 board meeting.
Separately, Chief Academic Officer Wendy McMullen described the Navarro Prepared initiative to create a centralized website and branded materials to inform parents and students about advanced academics, dual credit, P-TECH pathways, the Xello K-12 college and career curriculum, personalized graduation plans, testing dates, scholarships and other supports. McMullen said the office is designing artifacts to distribute across campuses and events to raise awareness of available resources.
Board members and staff framed both items as ongoing, informational activities that aim to increase student readiness for postsecondary pathways.
