Board OKs teacher salary schedule and appraisal calendar; beginning pay set at $51,900

The Nederland ISD Board of Trustees approved the district's proposed teacher salary schedule and accompanying appraisal calendar Aug. 19.
Assistant Superintendent Bill Jardell told the board the recommended compensation plan keeps salary progression by step and includes a beginning teacher salary of $51,900 — $18,240 above the state minimum salary schedule — and a maximum salary of $79,750 for a teacher on a 187-day contract with a master’s degree and 34+ years of experience, which Jardell said is $25,210 above the state minimum. Jardell also said step increases will range from $500 up to a $5,000 step when an employee reaches step 34 for the first time.
Separately, Dr. Steven Beagle asked the board to adopt the recommended list of T‑TESS appraisers (staff who meet state requirements) and to approve the district teacher appraisal calendar for required instruction from Sept. 23, 2024, through April 11, 2025, with listed exclusions. Both items were approved by unanimous vote. The actions formalize evaluation timing and personnel authorized to perform teacher performance appraisals for the coming school year.
