The council authorized a cooperative procurement with Hawthorne Machinery Company to acquire Caterpillar heavy-equipment replacements and attachments under a Sourcewell contract, with a not-to-exceed amount of $10.5 million over the contract term (through April 14, 2027, with an option to extend one year).
Donnie Winn of General Services said the purchase supports fleet-replacement planning for FY25–FY28 and includes an additional unit in FY25 to support a transportation pothole team. He said Sourcewell is a national cooperative procurement that speeds public-sector purchasing; Caterpillar currently offers diesel equipment for the planned replacements but has indicated it will roll out electric models starting in calendar 2025, with broader availability in 2026. Councilmembers noted the importance of transitioning fleet equipment as electrified heavy-duty models become available.
The motion to approve carried unanimously among voting members present (7–0) with Council Members Campbell and Campeo absent.
