Council approves reappointments and multiple proclamations honoring local leaders and events

San Diego City Council unanimously approved a slate of consent agenda reappointments and proclamations on Sept. 10, confirming several members to boards and commissions and issuing ceremonial proclamations for community events.
Councilmember Joe Moreno spoke in support of reappointments to the Small Business Advisory Board and the Citizens Equal Opportunity Commission, noting the nominees' nonprofit and private-sector experience. Clerk Diana Fuentes read the list of potential appointees and reappointments, and the council recorded limited individual votes against a small number of items: the record shows Council Member Von Wilpert registered nos on specific consent items and Council Member Moreno registered a no on item 54 during roll call discussion. The clerk then recorded the consent vote and moved the remaining items forward.
The council also approved a package of proclamations celebrating Grandparents' Day, Hispanic Heritage Month, the 40th anniversary of Friends of Los Penasquitos Canyon Preserve, and honors for public safety personnel, including recognition of Assistant Fire Chief David Gerboth on his new appointment. Council Member Lee said the proclamations "honor the resilience, history, and spirit of the community of Barrio Logan and Logan Heights" and invited the public to a Chicano Park Museum exhibit opening on Sept. 16.
No formal policy action was taken beyond the appointments and proclamations. The council pulled S503 from the consent agenda for separate discussion later in the meeting.
