Daughters of the American Revolution propose small monument for Veterans Park; council supports Nov. 14 dedication

Claudia Dundas of the Daughters of the American Revolution asked council for permission to install a 2.5‑foot slanted white monument with a 20‑by‑20‑inch plaque at Veterans Park, with a dedication scheduled for Nov. 14 during the Soldier City Market. The proposer said a local resident would donate labor and materials would be paid for by the DAR.
Council discussed placement to preserve future interior sidewalks and asked staff to coordinate the location so the existing GAR monument, World War II cannons and future monuments sit in a coherent memorial corridor. Staff said the city typically has not required permits for small historic markers placed by Main Street and would provide guidance and any required paperwork.
Council supported the project, recommended placing the marker a short distance south of the existing GAR monument and asked staff to provide the appropriate approvals and placement plan.
