Students describe seed harvesting and beautification work at Everett school garden

Three students and a parent representative described planting, composting and a recent beautification day at Everett School, and presented marigold seeds to the board as part of Gardening to Grow's stewardship work.
Students from Everett and Deer Path spoke to the Board of Education about hands‑on learning in school gardens and a recent beautification day.
"My name is Stewie Hensley. I'm currently ... I started my school my gardening career when I was in 3rd grade, helping to build Everett's garden beds," said Stewie Hensley, describing how the underutilized courtyard became a learning center. Teddy Hensley described watering responsibilities and how plants serve as sensory tools for students, and Poppy Hensley spoke about planting marigolds after harvesting seeds in the fall.
Catherine Hensley, co‑chair of the Everett Garden Club, said the volunteer day gave children the option to weed during recess and that many students volunteered enthusiastically. The students and parent representatives presented a small packet of marigold seeds to the board so community members could try planting them this summer.
