Meeting materials and board discussion noted that new state legislation creates a default right for homeschooled students to participate in UIL unless a district adopts a policy to bar that participation by Sept. 1, 2025. Trustee Melanie Roudkovski moved to approve the first reading of revisions to local policies FM and FD; Trustee Cindy Gabehart seconded the motion, which the minutes record as passing 6–0.
Trustee Melanie Roudkovski framed the policy change as a necessary local response to state legislation and moved the motion for first reading. The board will return with a final reading if required by policy timelines and will need to adopt a formal policy before the September 1, 2025 statutory deadline to effect the opt-out.
