Economic development staff announced a new business relocation during the Oct. 2 board meeting.
Steve Weathers said the company, Gelatys, a Miami‑based producer of premium gelato pops, has bought a building in Fort Myers, brought in custom machinery from Italy and expects to be operational by year end. “They'll probably be 50 jobs,” Weathers said. He described the company as an example of a reactive lead the city can support while the board focuses its proactive recruitment on higher‑wage targeted industries.
Weathers said staff would follow up with the board and provide photos and additional information through the clerk. Board members welcomed the news and said new local food manufacturers can create jobs and supply local retail and distribution networks.
