The Fort Myers City Council on Oct. 6 approved a first amendment to the memorandum of understanding with the Uncommon Friends Foundation to allow the contractor to continue work through the end of 2025 and to provide additional financial assistance for operating costs tied to the Burrows home renovation.
City Manager (as introduced in the agenda) told the council that "our contractor, Crystal Construction, believes that the work can be finished by the December 2025 if they're allowed to continue working," and that the foundation requested funding for the remainder of the calendar year after the original four‑month assistance period ended. There were no public speakers on the item and councilmembers moved and approved the amendment without opposition.
Staff said the change would avoid stopping construction and would keep staff and contractor coordination intact while the foundation completes work and returns the property to service. City staff will follow normal contract and agreement administration procedures for any required disbursements and oversight.
