County accepts FEMA/DHSES hazard mitigation and HAZMAT grants totaling over $148,000

The Cayuga County Legislature authorized acceptance of hazard mitigation and hazardous‑materials grants at its May 26 meeting. The county accepted a FEMA Pre‑Disaster Mitigation Competitive (PDMC) grant totaling $148,037.75 to update the multi‑jurisdictional all‑hazard mitigation plan; the award includes a federal share of $106,613.25 and a required 25% non‑federal match of $35,537.75.
The Legislature also accepted two DHSES HAZMAT grants: one for $81,900 (HMGP FY2024) that will purchase equipment and provide training for a tri‑county HAZMAT consortium, and another FY2023 targeted HAZMAT grant for $30,260 for similar preparedness improvements. The county authorized budget amendments and the ability for the Director of Emergency Services to execute grant documents and contracts.
