Mosier council adopts addendum to Wasco County natural hazards mitigation plan

The Mosier City Council unanimously adopted the City of Mosier addendum to the Wasco County Multi-Jurisdictional Natural Hazards Mitigation Plan during its Aug. 6 meeting. Councilor Ron Wright moved to adopt the addendum; Councilor Brenna Campbell seconded the motion and the vote was recorded as all in favor.
Sean Bailey of Wasco County presented a countywide analysis identifying wildfires, extreme heat and drought as the highest-ranked hazards for the region and described the plan's action-item structure and FEMA coordination. Bailey said, "FEMA funding is important, it's not the only purpose of the plan," and emphasized that the plan calls for ongoing local coordination through quarterly steering committee meetings. Councilor Charlie Cannon urged further investigation into human-caused wildfires near railways and roadways, and Councilor Wright noted the city could tailor the exhaustive hazard list to Mosier's needs while maintaining FEMA's documentation standards.
The council directed staff to post the adopted plan and the Mosier addendum on the city website and to continue local coordination steps identified in the plan. The motion passed unanimously; the council recorded no opposed or abstaining votes.
