Behavioral services to partner with SROs on mental-health and juvenile-prevention initiatives

Randy West briefed the committee that the behavioral services department is collaborating with the SRO program to bring mental-health services and juvenile-prevention programming into county schools. West described the partnership as early-stage and said more detail will be provided at a future public-safety meeting.
"Our behavioral services department is partnering with the SRO program, working on getting into the schools with not just the SRO program, but also on the mental health piece as well, and then the juvenile preventive program that we're working on too," West said, emphasizing the county's intention to expand mental-health supports alongside school safety personnel. He called the effort "a really wonderful partnership" and said the team is assembling additional supports to address opioid abuse, homelessness and other behavioral-health issues in the community.
County staff and committee members noted the scale and complexity of behavioral-health needs and agreed on future updates; no formal policy or budget changes were adopted at the meeting.
