A rezoning request for 1.72 acres in Aynor to allow duplexes failed Aug. 7 after staff recommended disapproval and public comment opposed the change.
Planning staff told the commission the parcel's future land-use designation is rural and recommended disapproval. Resident Tiffany Tompkins said she moved to the area to "retire, enjoy the quiet" and opposed the proposal. The district representative told commissioners the parcel is not suburban and that he would oppose the rezoning. A motion to approve the rezoning was made and seconded but failed on the commission vote.
