County to seek opioid recovery funds to add two harm-reduction staff for Fire Rescue

Beth Tran, speaking for Horry County Fire Rescue, asked the committee to approve applying for the South Carolina Opioid Recovery Fund Board's guaranteed political-subdivision subfund and to accept the grant if awarded to hire two additional harm-reduction team members: "The total amount of the application is 180194 dollars and 15 cents."
Tran said the harm-reduction team—established in 2023 and expanded quickly to four members—made more than 2,200 contacts in its first full year and is having trouble keeping up with volume. She described the requested positions as a specialist and a team leader to handle administrative duties and additional calls. The committee approved the application and accepted the grant if it is awarded.
