Commissioners create Prairie Centre TIF district for area near I-69 and Lower Huntington Road

Allen County Redevelopment specialist Rachel Black presented and the board approved Ordinance 07-10-26-10 on July 10 to create the Prairie Centre TIF Fund (Title 12 Article 279) for an area northwest of I-69 and Lower Huntington Road, effective through 2038. Black told commissioners that IU Hospital holds tax-exempt status, meaning ancillary businesses in the TIF area will be taxable and could generate increment for redevelopment uses.
Commissioner Ronald W. Turpin moved to adopt the ordinance and Commissioner Richard E. Beck seconded; the motion passed 2-0. County staff will record the TIF boundaries and proceed with implementation steps consistent with redevelopment plans.
