Committee approves $3.03 million in CHIPS allocations for county roads and equipment

For CHIPS allocations, the committee approved specific increases totaling $3,030,000 to be moved from the road improvement unassigned account into project‑specific accounts: County Route 1 (Burhollow) +$180,000; County Route 71 (North Jasper) +$80,000; County Route 702 (Dennis Corners) +$145,000; County Route 84 (Squab Hollow) +$300,000; County Route 95 (Day Road) +$100,000; County Route 106 (Church Creek) +$275,000; surface treatments +$700,000; major equipment +$1,000,000; County Route 4 (Kohakton) +$250,000.
Committee members asked whether the extra funds would cover escalation costs; public works said they will cover current escalation but earlier project cuts were still necessary. To manage cost increases, the committee authorized the transfer of $800,000 in surplus from three projects into the road improvement account and reductions to County Route 14 (‑$300,000), County Route 52 (‑$225,000) and County Route 87 (‑$275,000) to adjust the five‑year plan.
Public works cautioned that higher oil and asphalt costs forced reductions in chip seal mileage and trimming of some paving projects, and that the CHIPS formula is not published—they wait for the state letter showing allocations.
