County launches public budget primer and short URL to guide residents through budget season

Communications staff said the primer will be published weekly via the county newsletter and a central web page accessible at tcgov.co/budget.
The four‑week series will explain "what does Tompkins County do and who pays for it," cover why building the county budget is challenging, explain the property tax cap and what happens when the county administrator presents the recommended budget on Sept. 1, and provide example tax bills for local and city property owners. Staff will solicit resident questions and answer one per week as the series progresses. Chair and several legislators praised the communications effort as a clear way to inform residents ahead of budget deliberations.
