Irondale to donate older cruisers after receiving 10 new hybrid interceptors

Mayor James D. Stewart Jr. told council the city received 10 new Ford hybrid interceptors and said the vehicles cost roughly $675,000 to acquire and outfitted at about $67,500 per vehicle. He said four of the new cruisers will be assigned to SRO officers and six to patrol. The city plans to donate older, higher‑mileage vehicles to neighboring towns that lack adequate police transport assets.
Councilmembers expressed appreciation for the equipment upgrade; the surplus and donation resolution was left on consent and approved with the consent agenda.
