Council approves kitchen equipment, lighting and repairs for Civic Center and storage buildings

The council approved several procurement items on the consent agenda to support the Irondale Civic Center renovation and related facilities.
City staff said kitchen equipment purchases (not to exceed $325,573.28) will replace failing appliances and create a commercial catering-style kitchen for events. "The stove had 3 legs instead of 4," a staff speaker said when describing the condition of the existing equipment. The council also approved a $154,900 purchase for exterior lighting from Musco Sports Lighting and a $98,000 quote for roof repairs on two storage buildings behind the Civic Center. Separate change orders for MEP upgrades and expanded demolition in the Civic Center kitchen (totaling $117,704.93) were also approved as part of the consent agenda.
Staff said the lighting vendor quoted a lower price than another supplier and that the storage buildings require roof repairs because of leaks and mold. All items were left on consent and approved when the consent agenda passed on a voice vote.
