Public works: parks budget sent to council; grant application not pursued and community survey drew 900 Dixon responses

Lauren Catell, introduced on the agenda for park maintenance improvements, briefed the commission on parks staffing, maintenance priorities and grants. “The big thing for us is that the budget did go to council,” Catell said, noting the submittal went without surprises and is expected to be adopted next month.
Catell said maintenance crews are focused on irrigation during an upcoming heat wave, explained that Hall Park uses an AG well (not city water) and that irrigation may run at all hours to complete system checks. She reported the city rented a boom truck to perform in-house clearance pruning and said staff will soon present a memorial-bench proposal for Homestead Park. Catell added the city received notice it will not be able to apply for the arts-and-parks grant this year largely because the grant favors applicants that can provide a funding match.
On transportation outreach, Catell reported more than 900 responses to the Solano Transportation Authority community-based transportation survey from Dixon residents — a record number — and said further outreach and a final presentation are forthcoming. Commissioners asked about cooling stations during extreme heat, and Catell identified the library as a cooling option and said staff will follow up on access questions raised about park gates and emergency paths.
