Dixon Public Library unveils summer events, reading challenge with prize incentives

Raylee Garcia, the adult/teen librarian at the Dixon Public Library, presented the library's summer programming to the Parks and Recreation Commission, listing kickoff and recurring events and explaining sign-up and prize mechanics. “My name is Raylee Garcia. I am the adult slash teen librarian at the Dixon Public Library,” she said as she outlined events and logistics.
Garcia said the Water Day kickoff will take place Wednesday, June 4 at 2 p.m., and the teen anime café (ages 12–17) will meet on June 13 and 27 and July 11 and 25 from 2 to 4 p.m. Other scheduled programs include Rock Steady Juggling (June 13), Creek Explorers (June 18), a six-week adult yoga series starting June 9, Wild Things (June 25), Messy Art Day (July 2), author story times on July 8 and July 15, a magician on July 22, and Cello Joe beginning June 1. Garcia described program logistics and how the library's summer reading challenge works: children who sign up receive stickers and a pencil and can earn a free book, a certificate and a Sacramento River Cats ticket upon completion; teens receive a book and a River Cats ticket; adults receive a bendable book light and a River Cats ticket.
Garcia also described weekly raffle prizes and pickup rules: entrants may win San Francisco Giants tickets, Bay Area ferry passes or In-N-Out Burger family pack gift cards, but all prizes must be picked up in person at the library. When commissioners asked how people can find program information, Garcia directed them to the library website and the summer reading challenge tab and said activity sheets are available in-branch.
