Public works outlines capital and maintenance projects in proposed budget

Public Works Director Lauren Coteau briefed the commission on capital and maintenance projects included in the proposed budget that will go to city council for further review at a May 12 workshop.
Coteau said several park projects made the proposed budget after prior cost increases required scope adjustments: adding bottom rails and shade screens at the tennis/pickleball complex to prevent balls from exiting the facility, restoring benches, and completing warranty and ponding repairs at the courts in about three weeks. She said the pool-deck concrete is eroding and is included for replacement in the capital list, and that Musco automated lighting for ball fields and a thermoplastic line-striping machine were also proposed to bring work in-house.
Coteau noted energy-upgrade programs that finance LED retrofits at 0% (on-bill savings pay for the upgrades) and said the recent LED issues at the softball fields were resolved by the contractor and that staff will evaluate other fields for similar upgrades. She also said the department proposed a new park supervisor position in the general fund and described completed pesticide training, internal promotions, and a recently rebuilt dog-park shade structure.
Coteau said the overall operating budgets were essentially repeated for the year because new sales-tax revenue has not yet been realized and that council could adjust proposed capital spending during the workshop.
