During a fire-district RNR hearing at 11:00 a.m. on Sept. 9, the Ottawa County Board of Commissioners approved a levy for fire districts and adopted their 2025 budgets. Commissioners first approved Resolution 24-17 to levy a rate exceeding the revenue neutral rate, originally recorded as 22.674 mills; Commissioner Scott Mortimer moved to amend the levy to 20.424 mills and the board approved the amendment by unanimous roll call.
Commissioners also said they want to see full financial statements for fire departments that maintain bank accounts outside the county Treasurer’s office after Bennington Fire Department requested funding. The board then adopted the fire budgets for 2025 and closed the hearing.
