Council unanimously backs nonbinding shipbuilding resolution; residents warn of infrastructure costs

The Dixon City Council voted unanimously to adopt a resolution expressing support for the concept of restoring shipbuilding capacity to Solano County. Council member Johnson said the resolution contains no city spending requirement: "I just wanted to confirm that there because I had a couple calls, that there is no financial component to us," he said. Council members approved the resolution on a roll-call vote.
City leaders described the measure as a statement of support only. "This is a resolution in support of the concept of the project. It has no financial connotation whatsoever," a council member added during discussion.
During public comment, residents expressed support for job creation but warned of practical infrastructure needs and costs if the idea advances. One commenter asked where materials and workers would come from and whether roads such as Bird's Landing and Collinsville would require widening, calling the concept "a little premature" without more detail. The council did not commit funding and said any future requests for city money would return for council consideration.
