Town staff described the grant context: "In 2023, the CDC offered the state of Connecticut, $12,000,000 to distribute to local health departments for workforce development," the staff presenter said, noting that Somers received approximately $20,000 of that program and that earlier grant funds were used for certifications. The board and staff said the hire will be used to complete food protection inspections and other land-use health tasks while the employee pursues full certification.
