County HRA/EDA outlines new small-business grants and marketing supports to Lindstrom EDA

Nancy Hoffman, representing Chisago County HRAEDA, briefed the Lindstrom EDA on several small-business programs and grant opportunities. She described BYOB (Be Your Own Boss) sessions, short technical trainings, and two new grant programs aimed at entrepreneurs and building improvements. "They are up to $10,000," Hoffman said of the grant ceiling, and she explained matching and retention conditions for building-improvement awards and that applicants must work with small-business consultants as part of the application review process.
Hoffman asked the EDA to assist with marketing and outreach and invited members to a Feb. 19 presentation by University of Minnesota researchers who produced a retail-trade analysis using anonymized cell-phone data. Staff and board members discussed how these programs could help downtown businesses and how the EDA could refer potential applicants to the county's small-business development consultants.
