Council hears presentation on conditional state solar grants for fire hall and liquor store

City staff presented conditional state solar grants for two city buildings and described next steps for final approval and cash-flowing reimbursement claims. "The approval was contingent on the city submitting 2 years' worth of utility data for the liquor store, as well as a signed interconnect MOU, from Xcel Energy," the staff member said, noting the city had submitted utility data and was awaiting the MOUs. Staff said the state grant would reimburse about 70% of each installation and that federal tax credits were expected to cover much of the remaining cost.
Renewal Energy Partners described project scopes and system sizes and answered technical questions from council members. Michael Krause, chief operating officer for Renewal Energy Partners, summarized estimated output for the liquor store and fire station, saying the liquor store array would be roughly 38.6 kilowatts and "generate in its 1st year of operation 47,500 kilowatt hours of solar." Staff cautioned that both grants are reimbursable and the city must front expenses to be reimbursed by the state and (separately) the federal direct-pay credit.
