Residents urge Dixon to fix roadside weeds after ditch fire; staff to investigate

At two public-comment periods on June 3 residents asked the Dixon City Council to address recurring weed and maintenance problems along the Homestead overpass and Parkway. Resident Brandon Obelero said a ditch next to Homestead has repeatedly been left uncleared, that it burned and ignited a telephone pole late at night, and that city and county crews have not coordinated cleanup or outreach; he asked the city to treat the ditch as a fire hazard.
Another resident, Bobby Willipo, said dust and high weeds along the Parkway have damaged tenants’ property and that he regularly pays contractors and cuts the area himself. Willipo said promised city maintenance has been inconsistent and urged more reliable weed abatement. Staff responded that they would look into the properties and jurisdictional responsibility; one staff member noted some parcels in question are in the county while others are within city limits and said staff will investigate.
In follow-up during the second public‑comment block, Obelero reiterated that the strip from Pitt School Road to Porter Road is annexed to the city and asked for direct staff contact and cleanup. City staff acknowledged receipt of the concerns and said they would pass the matter to the appropriate department and follow up with the speakers.
