The Dixon City Planning Commission on June 10 conditionally approved a comprehensive sign program for the Buckhorn Barbecue & Grill at 1460 Perry Lane. Staff presented Design Review DRS25‑0193 and said the request included four new wall signs and a refaced monument sign with a total requested aggregate sign area of about 138.62 square feet, compared with an approximate allowable area of 78 square feet in the corridor mixed‑use (CMX) zone.
Associate planner Austin Ford told commissioners the signage proposal was larger than the frontage‑based allowance and required three specific findings for approval. "The signage program comes out to approximately a 139 square feet," Ford said, and staff recommended approval with conditions that address compatibility with the building and surrounding signage, pedestrian circulation, and emergency access.
No members of the public testified during the public hearing. Commissioners asked for clarification on visibility and design; one commissioner noted the planned illuminated 'flame' wall sign would be visible from I‑80 and could draw attention to the restaurant. A motion to adopt the resolution approving the comprehensive sign program, with staff's recommended conditions, passed. Staff advised the public the decision is final unless appealed to city council within 10 calendar days (appeals must be filed at city hall by Friday, June 20, at 5 p.m.).
