Sedan council approves $47,000 purchase to replace Jaws of Life after equipment failure

City staff reported the fire department's Jaws of Life went out of commission during an incident on Aug. 3, 2025. Fire Chief Shawn Butler obtained quotes and located a lender through Weise Fire; the council voted to purchase a replacement unit for $47,000.00, with Weise Fire providing a loaner until delivery.
Lana Robinson told the council the city is the only local provider of that rescue capability in the county and that losing the tool would have been "detrimental to our community and county" according to the minutes. Angela Evans moved to purchase the unit and Adam Clark seconded; the motion carried. The council directed that the $47,000 be taken from Appleby funds.
