City Clerk Lana Robinson presented Butler & Associates as a collection firm that can pursue unpaid utility bills and court fees. According to the minutes, the firm charges 33.33% of collections; Robinson said that if the council passes an ordinance, Butler & Associates can add their fees to the collection so the city can recover its administrative costs.
Angela Evans moved to contract with Butler & Associates and to have Jeff Chubb draft an ordinance allowing the firm to add its fees to collected debts; Adam Clark seconded and the motion carried. The minutes note the firm integrates with the city's current setoff and collections processes and that Butler & Associates will automatically include court costs and associated fees on collected accounts.
Council agreed to pursue the contract and to have ordinance language prepared for a future meeting; no ordinance text was adopted on June 17.
