Police report: crime down 30%; council accepts JAG grant for equipment

Major Ulloa reported to the council that overall crime indicators were down about 30% compared with previous reporting periods and clarified that recent miscategorization issues reduced the residential burglary tally to three confirmed incidents. He also presented traffic enforcement statistics for the month: 151 citations, 10 written warnings, 32 verbal warnings and 48 parking tickets. "We are currently down 30% on overall crime statistics," Major Ulloa said in his brief presentation.
Separately, council adopted on second reading an ordinance recognizing and appropriating $4,054 in Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant (JAG) funds for police equipment. Councilmembers thanked the department for the July 4 response and urged continued focus on high‑visibility patrols and school‑time traffic enforcement as the new term begins.
