Larry Denesha, St. Lawrence County legislator, updated the board on several county items. He said the town will receive a mortgage tax check for $3,831.57 and that the county recognized Hermon resident Eloise June Finley Croger on her 100th birthday. Denesha said the county is beginning work on planning a new highway administration and maintenance facility to replace buildings dating to the early 1900s; the new facility will be located at the outreach post on Route 11 toward Potsdam.
Denesha also discussed county costs related to so-called "State-ready" inmates, saying the county is preparing a resolution asking the State to act more promptly because the county currently incurs about $120 per day, per inmate while inmates await state transfer. He said that, following state and federal cuts to daycare funding, the county is now funding the program in St. Lawrence County with some cutbacks because the county did not budget for the reductions.
