Wichita and Sedgwick County explore unified parks registration and shared master planning

City and county staff presented a plan to synchronize parks and recreation programming and to extend the city's registration platform to county facilities to create a single point of access for residents.
“This partnership would enhance the, quality of centralized registration platform that integrates across the multiple city departments,” Reggie Davidson said, outlining a one‑stop registration interface that the city’s rec‑track system could extend to county parks. Staff said the move would reduce duplication, improve user experience and allow joint master planning and training between jurisdictions.
The presentation also recommended aligning the city’s comprehensive park master plan RFP to include county parks, evaluating system capabilities and establishing a collaborative implementation team to oversee integration. Commissioners suggested outreach and a public town hall so residents understand how shared services would work.
