County accepts PEMA grants totaling $45,672 for hazardous materials preparedness

The Lancaster County Board of Commissioners voted unanimously to accept two state grants from the Pennsylvania Emergency Management Agency (PEMA) to strengthen hazardous material planning and response. The Hazardous Material Response Fund award is $28,072 for July 1, 2025–June 30, 2026; the Hazardous Material Emergency Preparedness (HMEP) grant is $17,600 for Oct. 1, 2025–Sept. 30, 2026. Both motions included authorization for Brian P. Pasquale, Executive Director of the Department of Public Safety, to electronically sign the grant agreements.
According to the meeting record, the funds will be used to develop emergency planning and response capability and to conduct planning and training activities related to hazardous materials transportation emergency preparedness. Both items were approved on motions by Commissioners Parsons and Yoder and passed unanimously.
