Council approves sending sewer-rate letters; EGLE amends funding for lead/copper work

Councilors agreed Sept. 5 to send revised sewer-rate letters after Clerk Kristen Archambeau reviewed a draft from C. Holmes of UPEA and the council requested edits. Trustee Marier moved to send the letters with those changes; Trustee Korby supported the motion and the council voted unanimously to proceed.
Public Works and engineering consultant OHM reported that additional expenses tied to lead and copper service-line work required an amendment from the Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes and Energy (EGLE) to the Village's grant funding to cover the extra costs. Street Commissioner Burkman confirmed Public Works has been locating leaks and making repairs during the lead-service work and noted sidewalk work and upcoming Fifth/Sixth St. construction scheduled the week of Sept. 5.
The council did not include a dollar amount for the EGLE amendment in the meeting record; the sewer-rate letters will be sent with the edits the council approved.
