Residents, trustees complain about automated trash-arm collections on Route 20

Trustees and at least one committee member said the automated arm system used by the village’s trash contractor has generated ongoing resident complaints, including recyclables left in the street when the arm failed to lift a bin and concerns about reduced crew size and safety.
“I've had nothing but complaints on Route 20 since the arm system started,” a committee member said, describing missed collections and recyclables scattered when the arm did not lift the container properly. Members said the contractor proposed operating with one person rather than a three-person crew and that problems include dropped buckets, missed pickups and debris left on the road.
Board members said they are looking forward to the new bid and plan to evaluate the contractor proposals; several suggested the village could return to the prior collection method if the next contract allows. The issue was framed as both a service-quality and public-safety concern.
