Commission proclaims May 1 Day of Student Success, praises PANDO Initiative's expansion

Commissioners adopted a proclamation recognizing May 1, 2025, as the Day of Student Success and invited residents to support the work of local youth programs. Commissioner Bluebaugh read the proclamation noting PANDO Initiative's 30th anniversary and the organization's service across Wichita, Derby, Haysville and Maize school districts.
Daniel Medford and Nikki Childers of PANDO accepted the proclamation. Childers said PANDO operates in "27 school sites across Sedgwick County in 4 school districts" and will expand to 30 programs in the fall, including Reality U, a financial-literacy simulation for 8th and 10th graders. Commissioners thanked PANDO staff and local partners and invited the public to attend the Star Awards May 1 at the Crown Uptown Theater.
