Hewlett Neck approves $41,000 budget transfer to fund security cameras and nightly patrols

The Board unanimously approved a $41,000 transfer out of the contingency account to increase public safety funding and immediately authorized security measures after discussing a recent rise in property crimes. Clerk/Treasurer Michelle Blandino presented the recommended budget modifications; Mayor Moshe Blinder moved the transfer and Deputy Mayor Isaac Showman seconded the motion.
Using the transfer, the Board directed $30,000 to security cameras (3120.41) and $11,000 to security patrol (3120.40). The minutes record one vendor proposal: a Nov. 12, 2024 proposal from Mitman Low Voltage for seven cameras at $2,500 per camera; the Board authorized acquisition and immediate deployment in village right-of-way locations determined by the Mayor. Separately, the Board unanimously approved a proposal from Intuit Investigative Resources Inc. for nightly patrols: four hours per night at $55 per hour through July 1, 2026, subject to a contract approved by the Village Attorney.
Why it matters: Trustees characterized the crime uptick as an imminent threat to public safety and directed immediate procurement and contracted patrols. The Board approved both the funding and the contracts at the Dec. 13 meeting.
