Board opens RFP for food service; debate over contractor transfers, vote 3-2

The board voted to open a request-for-proposal (RFP) process for food service management. Other trustees and the superintendent clarified that the motion before the board only authorized opening the bids and starting the RFP process; it did not itself transfer staff or accept any bid. The board approved the motion to open the RFP by a recorded vote of 3-2.
The superintendent and trustees noted that free meals for students will continue during any procurement transition and that RFP publication and state approvals are part of the procurement timeline.
