Council approves three-payment plan to restore resident's water service

Mr. Ramirez of 29272 Maple asked the council for a sewer credit or a reduced payment after a busted water pipe under his house produced a major bill. Administrator Erin Braband said the town’s leak-credit policy requires repairs by a licensed plumber and that Mr. Ramirez had repaired the leak himself two months after the town notified him. Town staff had disconnected service for nonpayment.
Commissioner Schmidt moved to create a payment plan requiring "3 payments of $736.10 in addition to his regular monthly bill and the first payment of $736.10 is the minimum due to have the water turned back on." The plan must be paid by June 1; if a payment is missed, water service will be disconnected again. President Newnam seconded and council approved the plan unanimously.
