Resident donates funds, council approves adding sesquicentennial committee to donor plaque

A longtime volunteer who said he served as treasurer for Mulberry's sesquicentennial committee told the council he and other volunteers raised funds and later transferred those funds to the town to pay for shelter-house heating and air conditioning. "I've signed those about $67,000 worth of CDs over to, the town they used for heating and air conditioning out at the Shelter House," the resident said during public remarks.

Council members moved and seconded a proposal to recognize the committee on the park's donor plaque. A motion to add the Mulberry Sesquicentennial Committee's name carried by voice vote, recorded as 3-0. Council members who led the motion said the plaque already lists past donors and that adding the sesquicentennial committee would be a straightforward design change handled through the athletic annex or memorial plaque vendor.

The donor said the recognition would be a reminder for future anniversaries and that some committee members hoped to see the inscription remain for the town's bicentennial. The council directed staff to coordinate with the plaque vendor and the library to return remaining artifacts to the donor's custody.
