Jerseyville council reviews residential waste collection bids; mayor says billing will be to customers, not tax base

The council received an update on residential waste, garbage, trash and yard collection bid proposals during the Sept. 16 meeting. Mayor Kevin Stork said bids were due the day prior and that received bids will be reviewed over a two-month period; the expectation shared in the meeting was that any changes resulting from the bid process would not take effect until May 1, 2026.
During public comment Sue Cutright confirmed that residential trash pickup would be for City residents only. A resident asked whether residential trash pickup would be included in the tax base; Mayor Stork responded that the service would be billed directly to customers and would not be part of the tax base, per the minutes.
