The Jerseyville City Council approved a $2,500 tourism grant requested by Commander Duane Montgomery of the American Legion to support Strassenfest on Sept. 12–13.
Commander Montgomery told the council the club is "attempting to resurrect the event with the expectation of having 500 to 5000 people in attendance," and that the funds requested would be used to cover the cost of buckets and advertising. Commissioner Zachary Crawford moved for approval and Commissioner John Miles seconded; Mayor Kevin Stork explained that tourism grant funds derive from hotel/motel tax revenue and that the City tries to limit grant awards while supporting community events. The motion passed unanimously.
Organizers will proceed with event planning under the approved grant and are expected to coordinate details with City staff.
