The Jerseyville City Council approved several items to support the Downtown Country Christmas festival on Sept. 16, including a $7,000 tourism grant for marketing, permission to use City Center Plaza on Nov. 29, and a waiver of the plaza rental fee. Commissioners moved and seconded each motion and all passed by unanimous roll call.
Council also approved road closures and use of parking lots for the festival, adjusted the parade route to run into the Jersey Community High School parking lot to ease logistics for participating band members, and allowed downtown light displays to remain lit through Dec. 31 rather than turning them off on Dec. 25 as in prior years. Beth McGlasson, present at the meeting, stated the organization will work to promote local businesses and to increase community involvement.
