The Jerseyville City Council approved a $1,000 tourism grant to the Police Department T.E.E.N.S. program to support a Donut/Coffee 5K scheduled for Saturday, Sept. 6.
Commissioner Anthony Steckel moved to approve the application and Commissioner John Miles seconded. Police Officer and School Resource Officer Seth Tefertiller, who spoke to the council, said last year’s event awarded "eight (8) scholarships presented in the amount of $500.00 each" and that organizers hope to offer the same this year while working with local business sponsors. Board members Sue Long and Karyssa Tefertiller attended to represent the program. The motion passed on a unanimous roll-call vote.
Mayor Kevin Stork reminded the public that tourism grant funding is drawn from hotel/motel tax receipts and that the City balances support for community events against limited grant resources.
