Jerseyville council approves ordinance vacating portion of alley near Minard, Mary and Dorcas streets

The Jerseyville City Council on Sept. 16 approved an ordinance vacating a portion of the alley between Minard Street, Mary Street and a portion of Dorcas Street. Commissioner John Miles made the motion, Commissioner Steve Pohlman seconded it, and a roll call vote showed all five members voting aye.
City Attorney William Strang told the council during the preliminary hearing that the area being vacated is neither a street nor an alley and that vesting the area with adjoining property owners would not prevent access to property. The ordinance specifies that the vested parcels will be recorded with the Jersey County Recorder of Deeds. The council took the action as a formal motion and vote; no members voted against the measure.
