A resident asked the board how the architectural and engineering firms named in the draft resolutions were selected. Board member Nissel said she contacted firms in the area and selected those that were willing to do the work at reasonable rates and that met licensing requirements.
“We had a 2nd. All in favor?” the chair said during the procedural handling of the item; later, during public comment, Nissel summarized her process: “I called a few that I knew who were in the area to see who was interested and willing and had reasonable rates ... I went with the most local and lowest rates I could find who were willing to do it.” She also told the board that the firms are licensed in New York for architecture and structural engineering.
The exchange prompted clarifying questions about qualifications and whether the draft resolution text permitted direct billing to applicants; the board agreed to revise the language and return the item to the Aug. 3 meeting.
