The Rangely Town Council voted to suspend the Rangeley Area Chamber of Commerce’s special-event permits for one year, effective with reinstatement set for April 1, 2026, after the town’s liquor-licensing agent presented findings from an investigation into the chamber’s February 22 “crab crack” event at Colorado Northwestern Community College.
The liquor-licensing agent told the council the investigation identified three violations: alcohol left unattended on the premises after the event, servers not instructed to verify IDs and alcohol allowed to be taken out of the permitted venue. “I do believe that the Rangeley Area Chamber of Commerce did violate their special event permit responsibilities,” the licensing agent said, citing applicable Colorado statutes and regulations. After brief discussion the council voted on a motion to suspend the chamber’s special-event permits for one year; the motion carried by voice vote.
