Rangely High FFA students recite creed ahead of district contest

Addie Thane, Rangeley High School FFA chapter winner, recited the opening lines of the FFA creed for the town council on Feb. 11 as part of practice before the district contest.
"I believe in the future of agriculture with a faith born not of words but of deeds," Thane said, delivering the creed that students will present at districts. Bridal Mergelman, FFA advisor and agriculture teacher, told the council that students practice public speaking through the creed competition and that the chapter selected eight contestants for the local round; Thane and Hayden Garcia will represent Rangely at the district meet next Monday.
Council members asked the students to explain phrases from the creed and praised their improvement: one council member told Hayden he had shown "100% improvement." Mergelman said each student will be scored on their recitation and answers to two questions, which mirrors the district format and helps prepare them for the state contest in early June.
